WHERE has the time gone? I've been typing up this most since last week Friday. The only problem now is, I don't exactly REMEMBER everything I planned to blog about.
I've been busy getting my knit on. See, I finally decided on a project for something I could possibly complete in time for RB. I first swatched with this pretty bulky wt tweed. This is a cone yarn from Webs that I purchased years ago at Stitches East. But the FEEL of the swatch was all wrong. The yarn felt rough on my hands and I'd swear I'd been inhaling tufts of airborne fiber. The swatch did soften after I gave it a Eucalan wash. Then I got nervous when while casting on a piece of the yarn broke off. At this point, I'm not sure if I will consider using it again. If I did, I wonder if I would have to wind and soak it beforehand.
I ended up going with Tahki Bunny. It's destined to be a Wavy Textured Hooded Vest aka the RB project. I really went back and forth in deciding to use this yarn. I have 11 skeins and am using a discontinued colorway. The required yardage is 875 and I have 891 yards but am using a substitute yarn. I am just a teensy bit apprehensive about having enough yarn to complete this. So far it seems to be knitting up fast and I really like the color. One skein is yielding me 3.5".
Completion in time for RB may not happen because I seem to be overwhelmed by non knitting obligations. I joined the red and white quilt block swap on Ravelry and the blocks are due around the same time as RB. I wish I had more confidence and could quilt like I knit. But I guess that will come with time.
My original plans for this past weekend were to put in some time on the quilt blocks by making 3 blocks. THEN if time permits, work on my RB project. WELL, I knit not a stitch NOR completed a single block. I hadn't planned on having company on Friday night. I also hadn't planned on not taking my RB Project inside with me to the Rollerskating Bday party that DD attended. I was told (by a non-knitting teenager - not my child) that may be considered rude. What if somebody wanted to talk to me? I should have stuck to my guns and responded, "It's not like I'm going to hear them." So I felt like I was on a 3 hour time out as I sat there by myself watching DD rollerskate around the rink. I was at least able to cut the fabric to complete 3 blocks.
Yesterday, was a perfect rainy pajama day (as was Saturday). Too bad I had a busy afternoon. Last night, I made an attempt to sew at least one block. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be. The most I got was sewing a few rows. Not a single block. Sigh.
In the interim, I can offer you a pic of DD in her Anthropologie Inspired Capelet. I call her's the Cutie Capelet.
Here is a pic of the shawl I mentioned in my last blog post. Unfortunately, it's been set aside until after Rhinebeck.
Well, if I'm hoping to get any knitting time in, I need to be making it happen. I'm off to do just that.
